Data Protection
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a Regulation by which the European Commission has strengthened and unified data protection for individuals within the European Union (EU). It also addresses export of personal data outside the EU. The Commission’s primary objective of the GDPR was to give citizens back control of their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the legislation within the EU. The GDPR has replaced the data protection directive (officially Directive 95/46/EC) from 1995. The Regulation was adopted on 27th April, 2016 and entered into application on the 25th May, 2018. In the Uk, this is reflected in the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), which is tailored by the Data Protection Act of 2018.
